Achievements in Sporting Competitions
We provide sporting opportunities for all within the curriculum and through extra-curricular activities and Level I Inter-House sports; football, netball and hockey.
We aim to ensure all talented young sportspeople have the opportunity to further develop their skills, talents and confidence in a wide range of Level 2 and Level 3 competitions, enabling them to access clear pathways to elite sport and competition whatever their circumstances.
Our Roll of Honour is updated annually; it only stretches back three years because we want it to be a record of what our current pupils have achieved during their time at school. The history books show our leavers have been just as successful in terms of sporting achievements during their time with us.
Athletics
Kirkburton athletes compete in a range of competitions; West Yorkshire, Kirklees and Neiley cross-country events, West Yorkshire and Kirklees Partnership Indoor Athletics, including Panability, as well as West Yorkshire, Kirklees and English Schools’ Outdoor Athletics.
2018-19 Huddersfield Schools’ Championships; Y7 Girls - 2nd place; Y7 Boys, Y8 Boys and Y8 Girls all won their competitions. Y7 Super 8’s Competition; Kirklees representatives at West Yorkshire, achieving Bronze medals.
2020-21 Y7 Girls: 1st place in Huddersfield Schools Championships.
2021-22 Huddersfield Championships: Y7 Girls – 1st place, Y8 Girls – 2nd place, Y7 Boys – 4th place, Y8 Boys 8th place.
2021-22 English Schools: U13 girls – 3rd in North of England.
Neiley Races (Y6 Boys/ Girls)
In 2018-19 the Y6 Boys claimed 2nd place in the individual competition and 1st place in the team competition.
2021-22 AM – 1st overall in the girl’s races, FC – 3rd overall in the boy’s races.
Cross Country (Y6, Y7, Y8 Boys/ Girls)
2018-19 Boys and Girls - Partnership and Kirklees Winners; 2 Boys’ teams and 1 Girls’ team represented Kirklees at West Yorkshire - Boys were Silver medallists.
2019-20 West Yorkshire Cross Country finalists at Temple Newsam.
2021-22 Y6 Boys – West Yorkshire Champions.
Sports Hall Athletics
Since 2009, Boys and Girls in Y6, Y7 and Y8 have experienced huge success in this event, consistently winning the Partnership event, taking Gold and Silver in the Kirklees event and even reaching the West Yorkshire final every year since 2009. Year 6 athletes were given Athletics Hall of Fame Gold medal status in 2013-14 for their achievements.
2018-19 Y6 were 3rd in Kirklees; Y7 Boys, Y7 Girls, Y8 Boys and Y8 Girls were all Kirklees Champions and West Yorkshire Champions (never achieved by any other Kirklees school).
2018-19 U11 were 4th in Kirklees, KS3 Boys and Girls were Kirklees Champions and represented Kirklees at West Yorkshire Schools Games.
2019-20 Huddersfield Schools’ Championships; Y6 Boys & Girls, Y7 Boys & Girls, Y8 Boys & Girls - all won their competitions. Kirklees Finals; Y6 - 2nd, Y7 and Y8 Girls - 2nd, Y7 and Y8 Boys - 1st.
2021-22 Kirklees Finals: Y6 Boys & Girls – 2nd, Y6 Girls – 1st, Y7 Girls – 1st, Y8 Girls – 1st.
English Schools
Y7 & Y8 Boys – 1st in area and qualified for Regional ‘A’ final. Y7 & Y8 Girls – 2nd in area and qualified for Regional ‘B’ final.
Boccia
2018-19 U11 - 3rd, 4th and 5th in Kirklees. KS3 - 1st, 3rd and 4th in Kirklees and 1st place at West Yorkshire for 2nd year running.
2021-22 Y7+8 1st place in Kirklees.

In 2018-19 two teams represented the Partnership at the Kirklees finals.
Hockey
Y7 Girls: 4th in Huddersfield Schools and League tournament 2018-19.
Y8 Girls: Bronze in Huddersfield Schools’ League 2018-19, Silver in Huddersfield Schools’ tournament 2018-19.
Netball
2021-22 Y8 Kirklees tournament – 3rd place, Y7 Kirklees tournament – 4th place.
Rugby
2018-19 Kirklees Champions and quarter-finalists at West Yorkshire.
